After closing the Berlin gallery The Composing Rooms hosted two offsite exhibitions while in transition to Palma de Mallorca. These were solo shows of Michael Pybus for Dream Art Fair and Ella Goerner, presented in collaboration with Pushkin & Gogol in Berlin.

Over simplification of natural resources is a core concern in Goerner’s practice. One example of this simplification is with the culling of forests: the in-the-ground value of a tree is abstract, it has potentially millions of symbiotic value metrics as part of the ecosystem which aren’t fungible or recognised in the win/lose economic system — while out of the ground, each piece of wood can be reduced to a precise simplistic monetary value.

Over the past five years Pybus has made a name for himself as a painter of pop motifs and brand iconography – specifically an obsession with the global powerhouses of Pokemon and IKEA. Ubiquitous imagery is co-opted by Pybus, making the the brands work for him.
MICHAEL PYBUS THE COMPOSING ROOMSThe Composing Rooms has been a place for exhibitions, discourses and artists dealing with the contemporary world and digitalisation of analog matters since 2010. Founder, Ché Zara Blomfield, opened a space in London, switching to Berlin in 2013. In this publication, Blomfield gathers images and texts that allows a recount of what happened in the last few years. It also plays with the format of the book itself, blurring the limits between the ephemeral and the monumental presence of things.
